West Virginia/North Carolina – Meineke Car Care Bowl

A pair of teams with 8-4 records will square off in this 1:00 pm (e) battle. But ask the fans of the Mountaineers how the season went and they’ll tell you 8-4 was a disappointment under first year HC Bill Stewart, who replaced Michigan bound Rich Rodriguez. On the other hand, the folks in Chapel Hill are very satisfied with the resurgence of the program under second year HC Butch Davis ! WVU might have the best impact player in QB Pat White, but their rushing game (average well over 220 yards per contest) far outpaces a so-so passing game. And defense was a huge issue down the stretch as they gave up 356, 346 and 474 yards in their final three games while losing the yardage war to South Florida and Pitt and barely winning that statistical battle to lowly Louisville . The Tar Heels gain their strength through the air, averaging close to 200 yards per contest while gaining about 120 on the ground. NC will also be looking to regroup a bit as they lost 2 of their last 3 (beating Duke in their final game) and were outgained 466-203 by NC State and 336 to 285 by Maryland .
